A sunlit hillside packed with gold, orange, red, and pink fall trees under a wide blue sky, with metal rooftops peeking out at the bottom.

We made a quick run to the Dollar General near Ashcamp yesterday, and I couldn't keep my phone in my pocket. The autumn colors are finally showing here in the mountains.

Gold and orange everywhere, with little pops of red and pink tucked in between. I snapped a few of these from the car on the move, but here's what I saw along the way.

A narrow paved lane curving away under tall trees with yellow leaves, fallen brown leaves piled along the right edge. A winding road heading toward a mountain, framed by overhanging branches and trees turning gold and orange. A small creek running through green grass toward a culvert under the road, with a golden sunlit mountain in the distance. A small lane curving toward a guardrail and a red stop sign, set against a wall of orange, red, and yellow trees.
A two-lane road with double yellow lines running past a hillside of fall trees, with a big mound of green kudzu vines on the left.

See that big leafy green blob in the last photo? That's kudzu, a vine that climbs over trees and bushes until it swallows them whole. I've seen it all my life around here and only just learned what it's called. Funny how I keep learning new things about my own hometown.
