Fog lifting off a wooded mountainside in fall, seen from the foot of the mountain, with yellow and orange trees lit by the morning sun above a green yard and a country road.

Woke up to fog sitting on the mountain above our holler this morning. From down here at the foot of the mountain, you could see the sun starting to burn through, catching the yellow and orange leaves while everything behind them stayed soft and gray.

Fall is finally showing up here. Some trees are still hanging on to green, some have gone gold, and a few up top are already bare. That mountainside won’t look like this for long, though I can’t say yet whether the leaves will still be hanging on in a week or two or already gone. But it is beautiful to see this.

This is the view from my house out to the front yard. I took it right from my window at 9 am.
