Geeksouts — Page 25

I remembered watching Michael giving his best performance of Thriller on TV when I was 7 years old! I was like, “Ohh my that looked scary!” I also happened to own Michael doll with the famous red jacket. I wonder where it was. Hmm. Anyway, the movie trailer looks good.

On my watchlist: Michael 🍿

Auto-generated description: A woman in elaborate 18th-century attire stands in a luxurious, opulent room filled with people in period costumes.

Watched: Jeanne du Barry last week.

It’s a beautiful watch, but watching the court refuse to acknowledge her is hard to look away from. Louis loved her, but even he couldn’t hold back what was coming. Once he was gone, so was her place in that world.

“That young woman is my entourage.” — King Louis XV

The Marie Antoinette thread got me too. She refused to speak to Jeanne for years, and when she finally did, it was just one brief exchange.

I envy the phones out there that we can’t get here. It is just Samsung, Google Pixel, or iPhones everywhere. That kinda sucks. Sure, there are Motorola, TCL, Nothing, and many other mid-range phones, but none rank in the top 3. I would love to see Oppo, Huawei, or Xiaomi sold in the US!

A gulf is growing between the phones on sale in the US and those available in the rest of the world. US phone buyers are missing out. Read more from dompreston.com: The US gets the worst phones. Will Apple’s new CEO fix it?

I used to use or fool around with Linux many years ago. I enjoyed it for a while but I never stay But I always back to Windows or Mac. I think it is the limit of apps at that time really lost me interested to stay with Linux. Perhaps I should try it again one day!

Funny thing — Android actually runs on the Linux kernel. You’d never know it looking at your phone, and I say that as an Android user.

Ace won 3 out of 5 games against elite players w/ 10 yrs or more of experience, but lost 2 against players.

So, will we see robots playing against humans in the tournaments one day?

“The success of Ace, with its perception system and learning-based control algorithm, suggests that similar techniques could be applied to other areas requiring fast, real-time control and human interaction, such as manufacturing and service robotics, as well as applications across sports, entertainment and safety-critical physical domains.” — lead author and project lead at Sony AI Peter Dürr

I read this review about Apex. It convinced me to check it out. I would not expect it to be mind-blowingly good. However, it should at least be fun to watch, especially given the talented cast. I’ve added it to my watch list: Apex 🍿

While I was watching the Coroner Season 1, episode 1, I just learned that it was based on a novel with the same name but it is a series, totalling 8, based on a character, Jenny Cooper, the coroner!

So I add to ‘Want to read’: The Coroner by Matthew Hall 📚

I want to recycle some stuff, but I don’t think there’s a local program. I’ll research what’s available. I forgot about plastic bags that can be sent to stores. I have many plastic bags at home. I will have to ask the local grocery store to see if they will take them.

“In the U.S., shopping bags, wraps, and films aren’t accepted in most municipal curbside recycling programs. However, many of these thin, flexible plastics are acceptable for store drop-off at your local grocery store or big box retailers.” - Daniel Penge
