Personal

This year: more bloom than doom. Bloomscrolling means intentionally curating uplifting content instead of doomscrolling. I won’t avoid hard topics—open wounds need discussion—but I want scrolling that serves me, not just drains me. Small shifts, better mental space. Read more about it here

Tech gadgets are my kryptonite—saying no is NOT my superpower. 🤷‍♂️ Are you taking the no-spend challenge? I’ll try my best, but zero guarantees here. Fun fact: The average American makes 3 impulse purchases per week. Suddenly feeling very called out right now. Link

I’ve loved Winnie the Pooh since I was a baby. My Pooh doll was such a comfort to me and I still have it. Just heard Lego is making a Pooh set and I’m thrilled! I love building Lego. Already have the Gizmo from Gremlins set. This 85-piece Pooh set is mine! P.S. I also have the Acre house set!

A man in New Zealand literally grew a church out of trees. He carefully trained different species over an iron frame—leptospernums for colorful walls, cut leaf alders for a roof that lets light filter through. Started in 2011, now a living chapel in 3 acres of gardens. Absolutely stunning.

My mamaw started a tradition of giving me a John Grisham book every Christmas. After she died, my parents kept it going. Grisham releases about one book a year, so I’ve got them all in my collection. Just got The Widow last Christmas and I can’t wait to read it. Such a special tradition to continue.

Finally solved my small dining table problem! Got a vertical monitor stand coming Friday that’ll stack my two monitors on top of each other. Small table, big productivity boost. I’m so ready for this setup! Excited and a little anxious—just hoping it’s great and I don’t run into any issues! 🙌

I’m a sucker for good home decor ideas. This spring, I’m finally going to add some personalized touches around the house and get some artwork up on the walls. Can’t wait to make this place feel more like me—beautiful and exciting. Want more on personalized decor? Check it out here.

I’ve always wanted to start a bullet journal. It was created by a designer who needed a better way to stay organized and focused. The idea of having one simple place for goals, habits, and daily tasks really appeals to me. Might finally give it a shot this year. Link, Link, and Link

My dad just got Starlink, and we might hook it up today. I’m excited to see how well it works in our corner of Appalachia. Internet outages here can last for days, especially in the harsh weather, so I’m hoping Starlink will keep us online when our regular service goes down.

My M1 Mac Mini (8GB RAM, 256GB) is noticeably lagging after 5 years—just juggling multiple browsers, apps like Canva, emails (Outlook/Shortwave), & Microsoft 365. Is it time for an upgrade, perhaps to a Mac Air 15"?, or will I face the same slowdown in the time frame? Decisions, decisions.

While tackling laundry, I was caught off guard by a sudden surge of water—the bathroom had flooded! It hit me that the pipes might be frozen from the heavy snow. My wet towels are on hold, and I’m left with a mess. Any tips on handling this laundry crisis? (yes, the pic is intended for sarcasm)

A flooded laundry room with rubber ducks floating on the water.

What a snowy wonderland—it’s 11 degrees! ❄️ I know I am weird because I’m drinking a cold mocha almond latte.🧋It’s a mood! Oh, I dread doing laundry🧺today, but only one or two small loads. I wonder what I will be doing today? Read a book, binge TV, or write more content? Decisions, decisions!

Thrift store haul

Thrift store haul from Pikeville, KY! Yesterday’s adventures led my parents and me through two local thrift shops, and I struck an absolute jackpot in the book section. Found these four gems that I can’t wait to dive into 📚✨ They are very cheap, costing a dollar per book! What a great find, right? The Lincoln Lawyer by Michael Connelly 📚 State of Fear by Michael Crichton 📚 I Am Pilgrim by Terry Hayes 📚 Snow Crash: A Novel by Neal Stephenson 📚 Speaking of going analog—there’s something magical about holding a real book, feeling the pages, breathing in that paper scent. E-books are convenient, sure, but they’ll never quite capture that …

All Movement Counts (Even the Aimless Kind)

I love to walk. Back when I lived in DC, I’d spend hours on weekends just getting lost in the city with my camera, capturing whatever caught my eye. Those long, meandering walks were never about hitting a step goal; they were about exploring and discovering. Turns out all those hours of wandering were doing way more for my health than I realized. Two recent studies offer encouraging news about movement and how it protects us, and the takeaway is that how and when you move matter less than moving itself. One study in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology tracked over 100,000 adults and found that people who took a single long walk …

Chasing Sunlight: My Vitamin D Journey

Winter’s here in Kentucky, which means less sunlight and thinking about vitamin D. Most of us aren’t getting enough—35% of American adults fall short. I’m one of them. Both my doctors told me I wasn’t getting enough, so I’ve been taking 1,000 IU supplements year-round. What really surprised me: targeted vitamin D3 cut the chances of a second heart attack in half for people who’d already had one. I knew deficiency could affect health, but I had no idea it was tied specifically to heart health. Since becoming diabetic, I’ve been eating two or three scrambled eggs every day for breakfast to keep my blood sugar stable. The eggs should help boost …
