EVs chew through tires faster than gas cars — heavy batteries and instant torque put extra stress on every acceleration. A former Michelin executive put a number on it:

“EVs tend to wear out their tires up to 20% faster than standard gas vehicles.”

Many EV tires are designed for low rolling resistance — harder tread compounds, shallower depth. Less tread from the start equals a shorter lifespan.

I passed my permit test, and I’ve been going back and forth between an EV, a hybrid, or a gas car for my first car. Good to know what I’d actually be signing up for.
