OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google — bitter rivals — are now sharing threat intel to stop Chinese labs from copying their models. Anthropic flagged 16M unauthorized exchanges from fake accounts alone. Wild times when the AI Cold War is the thing that makes competitors play nice.

Anthropic just launched Claude Design — design systems, prototypes, slide decks, all from a prompt. Still in research preview with weekly token limits, but I'm keeping an eye on it. When it's widely available, I'm absolutely giving it a spin. via The New Stack

Hmm, Tim Cook out, John Ternus in as CEO. We will see how well he performs as CEO this fall and beyond. Will he play it safe or take risks with innovation? Will he also take over the new iPhone launch event this fall, especially with the rumored iPhone Wide Fold?

I rarely close apps on my phone. Some people swear by it, but on a newer high-end phone, it’s just not necessary — unless the app is buggy or torching your battery.

You might naturally assume that failing to close an app you’re not using will leave it “running” in the background on an iPhone. If you don’t close the app manually, it will drain your device’s battery life, right? While this is an understandable conclusion to reach, it doesn’t properly account for what force closing apps on your iPhone really does to the battery.

Robotaxis are now on the streets of Houston and Dallas, Texas. The interiors look nice and are very spacious, but, wow, it’s really happening. I love the big screen and the large glass roof on Tesla cars! I once rode in a Tesla while Ubering in DC (human driving though).

I wrote about my Mac Mini M1, 8GB, some time ago. Recently, someone else experienced the same issue, so I now know where to look for some spring cleaning later today. I hope it goes smoothly! Fingers crossed!

My Mac felt slow, but hardware wasn’t the problem. Here’s how I fixed it.

Memory makers are only expected to meet 60 percent of demand by the end of 2027. Link by @theverge.com

Memory makers are racing to expand, but AI-driven demand for HBM is outstripping supply. With new fabs not fully online until 2027–2028, experts warn of a 40% shortfall and shortages lasting until 2030. Expect volatile prices for RAM and consumer tech for the foreseeable future. Yikes!

Tesla brings its robotaxi service to Dallas and Houston by @techcrunch.com

“Robotaxi is now rolling out in Dallas & Houston 🤠” and includes a 14-second video showing Tesla vehicles driving without human monitors or drivers in the front seat.

Earlier, I wrote a post about Waymo. You can find it here. Now Tesla’s robotaxi service is coming to two cities in Texas. Hmm.

Do Kindles Need Screen Protectors? by bgr.com

That’s interesting. I’ve owned at least three Kindles, a Kobo, and a Boox, and I’ve never actually needed a screen protector. I always use a cover, and since e-ink screens aren’t made of glass like a phone, they don’t really crack the same way. It’s never felt necessary. What do you think? Do you put a screen protector on your Kindle?

Though I still have an iPhone 12 Pro Max and use it occasionally, I mainly rely on my Android phone daily. I generally prefer Android over iOS, but to fully enjoy Android’s benefits, high-end phones are often the best.

After being an iPhone user for 13 years…decided to switch to Android for good
