I’m a self-described technogeek who’s been writing blog posts on and off for over 20 years—long enough to have lived through the Blogger era and survived to tell the tale. These days, I’m all over the internet, reading everything I can get my hands on. I subscribe to at least 30 newsletters—probably more at this point, honestly—and I read them whenever I can squeeze in the time. If there’s an interesting article out there, chances are I’ve bookmarked it for later. And if you’ve got a newsletter with long, meaty posts, send it my way—I’d love to subscribe.

I’m Deaf, and I work as a content writer for the Organization of Unique Learners for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community (OULDHH), where I create educational content. While we touch on Deaf-centric topics, most of my work there focuses on neurodivergence—ADHD, autism, dyslexia, and the experiences of neurodivergent learners.

When I’m not reading or writing, I’m usually doing one of a million other things that catch my interest. I love building LEGO sets, getting lost in a good book, or wandering around with my camera for some hobbyist photography. I’m always trying to learn new recipes in the kitchen, and I have a weakness for browsing home decor websites for ideas I’ll probably never actually implement—but hey, the inspiration is nice.

I also love to travel. I used to explore different cities every month, camera in hand, just wandering and seeing where I ended up. Right now, my travel is on hiatus while I’m taking care of my aging parents and a friend who had a stroke. But I’m hoping to get back out there again soon.

I dabble in web development from time to time—learning HTML and CSS, discovering new tricks, and figuring out how things work. It’s not my main thing, but I do it for fun and pleasure, and it sure does keep me busy for hours trying to get everything just right. And yes, I’m a bit of a perfectionist about it—my posts have to be exactly the way I want them, and my blog designs need to be just right. If you want proof, go read about Wrestling with Micro.blog earlier. I won, by the way.

Speaking of platforms: I write my drafts in Notion and am always looking for the easiest way to move my final posts to a blogging platform. I’ve been jumping from one platform to another over the years—from Blogger to WordPress to Wix (briefly) and now Substack, and just recently Feather.blog. I dabbled on Micro.blog a couple of years ago, stopped for a while, but I’m back! My main newsletter, “Toby Geeks Out” (because that’s what I do—I geek out about stuff), is currently on Substack, but I’ll probably move it to Feather.blog or Micro.blog soon—I haven’t made up my mind yet. Fair warning: I’m always looking for a better platform, so don’t be surprised if I jump ship again. It’s kind of my thing.

On this blog, you’ll find a mix of things. I try to maintain a weekly roundup covering five topics in a conversational, chatting-over-coffee style. The topics shift with my interests, so who knows what’ll show up next week. I’ll occasionally write deep dive posts when something really grabs my attention. And then there’s the micro-blogging—me rambling about whatever’s on my mind, what I’m watching, what I’m reading, what I’m thinking about. Fair warning: I’m terrible at giving reviews. I’ll tell you what I watched or read, but don’t expect any critical analysis.

Here’s the deal: this is a casual space. I write like I talk. Sometimes I’m lighthearted and geeking out over something ridiculous. Other times I get serious and dive into heavier topics—things that have been bothering me for a while, issues where I feel like I need to have my piece to say. Typos happen. Thoughts are half-baked sometimes. I might go off on tangents about LEGO one day and wrestle with something deeper the next. That’s the point. This isn’t polished, it’s not trying to be perfect, and honestly? It’s more fun that way.

Also, full disclosure: I’m still searching for my own true voice as a writer. I’m experimenting with different styles, trying to figure out what feels right and what I want to stick with. So if my voice or style changes abruptly, that’s why—I’m still on this journey of becoming a better writer. Bear with me.

I write all over the place—you can find me on Substack (for now), Feather.blog, Medium, Postcard.page, and here on Micro.blog. This is where I collect my thoughts, share what I’m learning, and write about whatever’s floating around in my head.

Thanks for stopping by.
